Commissioned by the Islands' Partnership Creative Islands initiative, with funding from Arts Council England and the Steamship Company, this beautiful fused glass and Iroko wood artwork has been installed in the shelter on the Strand. Inspired in part by the museum’s collection of marine, maritime and environmental artefacts, Oriel Hicks worked with carpenter Steve Harding and a number of other local artists to design the frame and incorporate a bespoke series of original glass panes, creating a public art feature for posterity. Combining new techniques with a traditional art form, each pane highlights details of Scilly’s Island Heritage including landmarks, place names and examples of flora and fauna. The subtle palette of blues and greens has been chosen to work with the natural light across the harbour.
