Spend a day like a Scillonian!
In true Scillonian spirit we share a bumper list of personal recommendations on how to experience one amazing day on the islands based on how you travel here. You never know, a truly inspired day may even spur a future staycation!
Fly to St. Mary's, dropped into town, bit of breakfast at On the Quay. Mid-morning boat to Tresco Abbey Garden, followed by lunch at The Ruin, or The New Inn. Get the boat back and walk round Hugh Town or maybe the Garrison. Pick up a gift on your way back through the thoroughfare.
Head to St. Martin's. Walk up to the daymark take a tour of the St. Martin's Vineyard and have a glass of wine. If you're a bit more adventurous hire a paddleboard or kayak from St. Martin's Watersports. Relax on the beach, walk straight down the middle of the island and have a drink or quick bite at The Seven Stones Inn. Get the boat back and straight up to the airport.
Over to St. Agnes for lunch at a local eatery or take a packed lunch before you head off from Hugh Town. Walk round the islands and search for beads at Beady Pool. Download the Shipwreck Companion App and look for shipwrecks off the Western Rocks. Grab an ice cream from Troytown and bottle of Gin or some soaps from Westward Farm and back. Stay longer and book a charter with St. Agnes Boating and John Peacock. Back to St. Mary's and up to the airport.
Straight over to Bryher, relax on beach or hire paddleboard or kayak from Hut 62. Drink / lunch at either Hell Bay, Olivia's Kitchen or Fraggle Rock. Alternatively, grab a fresh grab sandwich from Island Fish and sit on the beach. Walk the islands and pick up some fudge from Veronica Fudge Farm to keep you going and some Scilly Succulents to take home and grow in the garden. Boat back and up to the airport.
Last but not least St Mary's...
Fly over and walk down the hill into Old Town round Peninnis Head and into town. Spot of lunch at Dibble & Grub or The Beach or anywhere else you might stumble upon. And try a delicious coffee locally, at Hugh Town Café. After lunch take a tour with Island Rover or hire a kayak / paddleboard or go for a trip on the Endeavour Rib service with The Sailing Centre. Drink in a pub or café and back to the airport.
Arrive by Scillonian III passenger ferry. Head into town, grab a coffee and head round the Garrison for a slice of English civil history. Hire a golf buggy or bike to explore the rest of the island. Head back to the main hub of Hugh Town, walk across Porthcressa Beach or beachcomb on Town Beach. Lunch with views at Juliet’s or take in the surrounds of a traditional pub in town (The Mermaid is the most traditional). Finish by popping into a local shop to gift by before heading back to the harbour and grab a snack from On The Quay before boarding the boat.
