About

Alex is an illustrator, painter, and avid beach comber, based in her studio on the West side of Bryher.

Easily distracted by the beach, she flits from illustrating her own books in the studio to painting outdoors in all weathers, often returning home with a rescued buoy or two and a bag full of beach plastic. Her studio is a treasure trove of beach finds; birds skulls, lego, and multi coloured lobster tags fill every shelf alongside piles of sketchbooks, pencils and paints.

Her watercolour paintings are always done outdoors depicting the true nature of island weather, grey rain clouds and dark indigo seas.

The quirky stories she writes and illustrates in the studio also have a weather-related theme, with tales of small dogs lost in dark,snowy forests and hapless zebras sailing out to sea as the fog rolls in.

Her larger scale work can be found on the wall of the Island Fish shop on Bryher..a six foot lobster called Leonard. Her studio can be found on Great Par beach, Bryher.
