Occasionally, extreme Spring Tides cause the water barrier between Tresco and Bryher to vanish for a few precious hours, creating a rare opportunity to walk across and experience the charm of another island.

Below are the dates, times, and low tide heights when crossing between Tresco and Bryher should be possible. In general, the best route is to start at Flood Hatch beach, head toward Samson, follow the sandbars across the middle of the channel, and then head towards Church Quay on Bryher. You may get your ankles or even knees wet; if you find yourself wetter than that, it’s a good idea to check that you're on the correct path.

Our Harbourmaster offers some important advice for anyone walking between the islands. This includes wearing proper footwear, avoiding walking in fog, always informing someone of your plans, and checking tide times and weather forecasts (as tide heights can be influenced by weather conditions and air pressure). Never attempt to walk back more than half an hour after low tide—wait for the boat instead.
