What could be more unique than snorkelling with seals! This unforgettable experience swimming with these amazing creatures that surround our beautiful islands will allow you to get up close to the Atlantic grey. Trips take you out to the Eastern Islands for a 2.5 hour tour where local instructors will guide you. All the relevant equipment will be provided and no previous experience is necessary, but you must be comfortable swimming in open water! After you’re play in the water – one may play with your fin! – a warm drink and snack will be waiting for your return to boat. Located on sandy sheltered Porthmellon Beach, on the west coast of St. Mary’s, The Sailing Centre is the only RYA, BSUPA & AALA licensed provider in the islands, offering high quality, safe watersports tuition and activities for all levels. Offerings include taster sessions and courses in sailing and windsurfing for groups or private hire, plus Kayak tours and special excursions, the hiring of day boats, dinghies and motorboat. Also for hire are kayaks and paddleboards, an easy way to explore the clear waters that surround the archipelago, you can pop into Hugh Street Deli for a picnic lunch and paddle around the coast to discover a secret cove. For thrill seekers, the RIB speedboat ‘Endeavor’ is available for wildlife watching (dolphins, seals, porpoise sometimes whales!), private charter, inter-island taxis, and thrill rides. This may be the UK’s most South Westerly Golf course, however there are many additional reasons for its uniqueness, primarily its spectacular setting perched high on the Northwest coastline of the largest inhabited island of St. Mary’s. The 9-hole course which is 5942 yards in length and has 18 tees and a par of 73, is a combination of traditional links and gently sloping moorland with heather and gorse, with generous fairways and small greens. The club has a wide range of hire clubs, trolleys, golf buggies and bowls equipment and nurturing a friendly, relaxed and informal atmosphere, is warmly open to everyone, members and non-members alike. The clubhouse bar and bistro is a destination in itself, offering delicious home-cooked food and an outside terrace that affords panoramic views of St. Mary’s, the Western Isles, Bishops Rock in the distance; and is a particularly lovely place to watch the sun set as it dips behind the uninhabited island of Samson.
